Boris Tishchenko, one of Russia's most respected and famous composer, was specially commissioned by JS Uberoi (Director of the Festival) to compose a requiem in memory of HRH Princess Galayani. HRH Princess Galyani’s support and patronage has been vital to the success of Bangkok’s International Festival of Dance & Music ever since its inception. Her close involvement with the Festival as its Honorary Chairperson and then its Royal Patron was the driving force behind its success.
Tishchenko’s moving composition ‘Requiem Aeternam’ is dedicated not just to HRH Princess Galayani’s memory but also to Her contribution to the development of arts and culture in Thailand. The requiem forms the second part of the programme, the first part is devoted to: Albinoni’s Adagio, Rachmaninoff’s Vocalise, Barber’s Adagio, Wagner’s Isoldes (Liebestod) and Mahler’s Adagio.
The concert is conducted by Robert Luther and the orchestra is the well-known Russian Symphony Orchestra, from Bashkir, Russia. The orchestra has a very wide repertoire and is famous for its symphony concerts. It has performed besides many cities in Russia, in Egypt, Italy, Spain, Portugal and South Korea.
