First Part: G-Strings from Germany
Presented by the Goethe-Institut and Nivea
The G-Strings have cast aside the boundaries set by classical music. Since its foundation in 1993 the quintet has systematically played against the grain and their innovative crossings have been enthusiastically celebrated in concert halls and in the press, by classical and jazz audiences. In their virtuoso chamber music style, the string players create Jazz, Pop- and Rock Music that mixes the despair of Tango with jazzy freedom and classical Raffinesse. The programme is in a jazz format that is built out of parts from different styles: arrangements of tangos, jazz standards and rock and pop classics and originals.
They have performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival, the Ravinia Festival, the Shanghai Music Festival, in Riga, Novosibirsk, Tonhalle Düsseldorf, Westport/Technics Jazzport Hamburg, and at the festival ‘Jazz in Hamburg’.
Second Part: Bconnected Jazz Band from Switzerland
Founded in 1994 by the guitarist Eugene Montenero, bconnected melds electronic, world, funk and jazz in a magical performance. Because of this open-mindedness, bconnected is in a perpetual state of evolution but keeping its roots in the tradition of the jazz. The band has toured extensively in Asia, played concerts in all parts of the world from Lausanne to Shanghai, made their presence felt at prestigious festivals such as Montreux Jazz Festival, Tabarka Jazz Festival, Willisau Jazz Festival, Dimajazz de Constantine, Shanghai Grand Theater and Shanghai Jazz Festival.
