Teatro di San Carlo from Naples is the oldest active opera house in the world, as it was established in 1737. This legendary company with a cast of over 250 artists will stage ‘Carmen’ – a passionate rendering of Georges Bizet’s much-loved classic. It stars some of the top singers in the opera world today including Grammy Nominee, Saimir Pirgu, mezzo- soprano, Veronica Simeoni, baritone, Vito Priante, one of the greatest comprimario tenors of his generation, Carlo Bosi and Gianfranco Montresor who has performed along with Andrea Bocelli. The opera is accompanied by an orchestra and is conducted by the legendary Maestro Zubin Mehta.
The underlining importance of San Carlo opera house is the close association with immortal composers such as Johann Adolph Hasse, Joseph Haydn and Johann Christian Bach. In fact, the revered Italian composer Gioachino Rossini, from 1815 to 1822, was the house composer and artistic director during that time.
It truly is a once in a lifetime opportunity to hear the world’s leading opera singers who regularly perform at New York’s Metropolitan Opera, Teatro alla Scala, Vienna State Opera, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Paris Opera, Bolshoi Theatre, Opera di Firenze and Teatro di San Carlo.
