The Chinese Poetic Opera & Dance Drama ‘the Legend of Lady Zhaojun’ celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China is successfully performed in Thailand

As one of a series of cultural activities to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China in Thailand, the Poetic Opera & Dance Drama ‘the Legend of Lady Zhaojun’ led by Li Yugang, a multi-award winning Chinese singer, was invited to participate in the 21st Bangkok International Festival of Dance and Music.

On October 5, the first performance of ‘the Legend of Lady Zhaojun’ in Thailand was concluded in Thailand Cultural Center. Her Royal Highness Princess Sirindhorn, who has just received the “Medal of friendship”, the highest Chinese state honor bestowed to foreigners,conferred to her by President Xi Jinping in Beijing, attended the performance and communicated with Li Yugang after the performance. Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Thailand, Lyu Jian, Minister of Culture of Thailand, Itthiphol Kunplome, Ambassador of Russia, Singapore, EU, Germany, Chairman of Bangkok International Festival of Dance and Music, Uberoi, and other distinguished guests attended the event. After the performance, Ambassador Lyu Jian expressed his congratulations on the success of the performance on behalf of the Chinese Embassy to all the performers. 

‘The Legend of Lady Zhaojun’ is a commissioned work of the 19th ‘Meet in Beijing’ Art Festival, co-sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China and other organizations. It is jointly produced by China National Opera & Dance Drama Theater, China Arts and Entertainment Group and Yuze Oriental (Beijing) culture media Co., Ltd. This performance tells the classic Chinese historical story with innovative stage narration and combines traditional Chinese culture and art elements with modern dance beauty and technical effects to convey the unique oriental aesthetics to the audience. The audience responded warmly to the performance, with rounds of applause and cheers at the end of the performance, prompting the performers to acknowledge the applause again and again. The audience stood for a long time and would not want to leave.

Bangkok International Festival of Dance and Music, founded in 1999, has been successfully held for 21 times. It is the largest international art festival in Thailand with the highest art level, and also a performing art event with wide influence in Asia. There will be two performances of ‘the Legend of Lady Zhaojun’ in Thailand. The second performance will be held on October 6. Thailand is the first stop of the show’s international tour.
