Building creativity and confidence among Thailand’s curious youth
Bangkok’s International Festival of Dance & Music is delighted to announce the return this year of the indispensable Student Outreach Program, dedicated to exposing young people to the performing arts. In 2022, our inaugural year, we hosted six masterclasses and workshops as well as two performances just for students, including underprivileged youngsters who were provided meals and transport. Overall, these efforts immersed more than 2,000 kids in the magical world of dance and music, all free of charge.
One production from the main Festival, Attention by Todes, included a show just for students. The Jukebox performance, meanwhile, was a Student Outreach Program exclusive. Both showed our young people all of the wonderful possibilities of expression and self-actualization, and we are excited to continue such revelations in the 25th Festival this year.
We aim to raise the standard of dance and music education for youth in Thailand, in part by providing opportunities for young artists from around the world to visit and engage with our artists here at home. The hope is that learning to appreciate music, dance, drama and other arts from different cultures, communities and traditions will build creativity, inspire out-of-the-box thinking, and shape our future generations into true global citizens.
