One of Hungary’s leading orchestras, it is also the country’s most progressive and versatile symphonic orchestras. Its performances are characterized by passion, energy, and commitment. In 2007, on its 100th anniversary, András Keller, world-renowned Hungarian violinist, pedagogue, and the founder of the Keller Quartet, was appointed as Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the orchestra. Under his leadership, the orchestra underwent a major period of artistic growth and development, as the foremost young chamber musicians have joined him.

The orchestra celebrated its 100th anniversary  in 2007 and enjoys an enviable reputation for its interpretations of the Hungarian symphonic literature. Their repertoire ranges from well-loved masterpieces to newly composed works of the 21st century. The orchestra has performed internationally in several major cities with distinguished musicians and soloists including Dezső Ránki, Zoltán Kocsis, Dénes Várjon, Barnabás Kelemen, Miklos Perényi Isabelle Faust, Sir James Galway and Evgeni Koroliov. In 2007, András Keller, world-renowned Hungarian violinist, pedagogue, and the founder of the Keller Quartet, was appointed its Artistic Director and Chief Conductor. Keller’s innovative concert programmes are designed to engage both musicians and audience members alike in a dialogue with the music. To heighten this tension, old masterpieces are often heard alongside contemporary pieces.
