Story synopsis on screens in English and Thai
This contemporary ballet depicting the glitzy life and dramatic death of Marie Antoinette was choreographed by neoclassical auteur and member of the Academy of Fine Arts of the Institute of France, Thierry Malandain. Fittingly, it not only premiered at Versailles, but also, here in Bangkok is accompanied by the orchestra of the Royal Opera House of Versailles.
Malandain Ballet Biarritz, created by the Ministry of Culture and the town of Biarritz, is made up of dancers who trained in classical technique but perform in a contemporary style. One of Europe’s most widely seen companies counts 100,000+ spectators per season and almost 100 performances per year, including a third abroad.
History buffs, fashion-lovers, those wooed by tragedy: “Marie-Antoinette” has something for everyone. If you are fascinated by the juxtaposition of politics and flirtation, by the French Revolution, by the power of dance, this stunningly beautiful deep-dive into the psychology behind one of the world’s most famously demonized queens will emotionally and artistically captivate you.
