The Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra (SPO) is a highly regarded symphony orchestra that developed from Shanghai Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra. It is one of the top five orchestras in China, among over a hundred orchestras. SPO has collaborated with renowned musicians like Isaac Stern, Itzhak Perlman, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Luciano Pavarotti, Plácido Domingo, José Carreras, Yo-yo Ma, Támás Vásáry and Boris Berman among others.
In Bangkok, SPO will present Lu Siqing, one of the most outstanding Chinese violinists today: the first Asian violinist to win the prestigious Paganini International Violin Competition in Italy in 1987. Hailed by Strad as ‘an outstanding talent’, Siqing has performed to acclaim throughout North and South America, Europe, Asia and South Africa at the world’s most prestigious concert stages including the Musikverein, Vienna; Avery Fisher Hall, New York; Hollywood Bowl, Los Angeles; Southam Hall at National Arts Centre, Ottawa; Maison Symphonique, Place des Arts, Montreal; Royal Opera House, Wigmore Hall, London & more.
