Cutting-edge dance company Vertigo, from Israel, is acclaimed for its innovative choreography blending contemporary dance with elements of ballet and theatre to explore diverse themes with fluid movements and striking visuals. It is the brainchild of Noa Wertheim and Adi Sha’al, named after their first professional collaboration, a 1992 piece called “Vertigo” based on a feeling Adi had while training in the Air Force that echoed in romantic life, the powerful force of spinning out of control.
“Makom” in Hebrew means “place,” a real or imagined home or spiritual refuge. This moving new piece by Noa explores a world out of balance, and humanity’s quest to unify our bodies with our souls, restore equilibrium and return home.
“Mana,” which takes its name from the Zohar poem, is an inspirational vessel of light. You’ll feel increasingly buoyant as the piece progresses: a unique spiral movement picks up momentum, gains refinement along with energy, and ultimately is an act of healing.
